Section 8 Housing
|
Families and elderly persons can get help with their rent. You must rent from a private landlord. Rent and utilities will be 30% of your family income. Section 8 is available through MVAC in Faribault and Le Sueur counties.

Loan Programs

Rehabilitation Loan Program - RLP
- Address health and saftey improvements
- Deferred loans - live in the home for 15 years and the loan is forgiven
- 0% interest for owner-occupied homes
- Income based program
- $24,999 maximum loan amount ($34,999 for lead or accessibility improvements)
- Loans for Mobile Homes - there will be a lien against the property for 10 years - the loan is then forgiven
- This program does have a wait list
RLP Fact Sheet
Fix Up Fund - FUF
- Low Interest Loan
- $35,000 maximum loan amount
- $96,500 maximum gross household income
- 20 year maximum loan term
- You must own and occupy the property to be improved as your principle residence
- Eligible improvements are those that improve the basic livability or energy efficiency of the borrow's home
- Loan available for people with minor credit issues
- Loan cannot be used for work already in progress or done

Rental Rehab Loan Program - RRLP
- Low Interest Loan
- 15 year maximum loan term
- $25,000 single family structures or
- $10,000 per unit or $100,000 for a multi family structure

Weatherization
|
This program provides energy saving services for your home. Things like caulking, weather stripping, and attic insulation are available. Weatherization will reduce your fuel costs and make you more comfortable in the winter. There is no cost to you. This program can only help you one time. It is for both low-income homeowners and renters. This program is available in all nine counties.

Homeless Prevention Housing Assistance

There are various programs available to help households from either becoming homeless because of an eviction, or if they are currently homeless, (by HUD’s definition) get them into permanent housing.

Family Assets for Independence (FAIM)
|
Family Assets for Independence in MN is a long-term savings plan that helps people buy a home, pursue higher education, or begin a micro-business. Earned income that is deposited into a special savings account will be matched at a 3:1 ratio by public and private sources. Available in all nine counties.
