Internship Opportunities

MVAC is a Community Action Agency. It is a private, non-profit organization. For more than 30 years MVAC has served as a bridge between poverty and self-sufficiency. MVAC serves people of any age, race, color, sex, national origin or disability.

MVAC provides a range of services to all age groups. Some services help people meet basic human needs. Basic human needs are things like food, clothing, housing and heat. Other services provide support and help with gaining and retaining employment, yet other services work with long range planning. Most of the people served are from financially disadvantaged households.

MVAC provides services in Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca and Watonwan Counties.

Internship opportunities may be available in the following areas:

MVAC Marketing Internship

Review all marketing techniques currently utilized by MVAC. Create or facilitate the standardized format for any agency PR activity. Develop a strategic and viable marketing plan and budget. Develop a marketing plan targeted at prospective donors, both individual and corporate. Create 3 signature PR activities:

1.) Targeted for press value and attracting attention, outcome is raising awareness (a ball or something).
2.) An event or drive whose main outcome is raising money.
3.) An event or campaign whose main outcome is to collect names of potential donors.

Thrift Store Internship

Research and develop marketing strategies to increase revenues. Recruit volunteers.

Human Resources

The internship consists of Americans with Disabilities (ADA) updates, AWAIR and ERTK program updates, and work on developing an emergency plan for pandemic flu.

Web Site Develop Internship

Expand MVAC’s current web site.

Database Management Internship

Assist in maintaining the Head Start database and assuring accuracy of information and reports that are sent to the Head Start grantor, coordinators, and Head Start field staff. Work with the Database Administrator to develop a plan to potentially add remote users to the system and provide initial and on-going training, creating resources and providing technical assistance to them. This internship would be at the MVAC Main Office located in Mankato.

Social Service Internship

Work along side social service staff to provide services to low-income families. You can help families to receive resource and referral information, an opportunity to create and achieve measurable goals, assess their family's strengths, and assist them in crisis situations. This internship may be completed at any of our 9 locations in south-central Minnesota.

Employment Services Internship

Assisting people obtain and retain employment - 9 county area.
