Requirements
What do you have to do?
If you live in MVAC’s 9-county service area, have been employed for at least 60 days, are 21 years of age or over, have a valid Minnesota
Driver’s License, your driving record is free of alcohol or drug-related
driving offenses for the last seven years, and if you meet income guidelines,
you can get an application by calling 507-345-0446 or 800-767-7139 ext. 2446.
You will receive Vehicle Maintenance counseling where you will learn how to care for
your car. Providing regular maintenance will add years of life to any car,
and reduce repair costs.
You will meet privately with a counselor to discuss your monthly budget.
Together, you will decide if you can afford the lease payments, insurance,
and upkeep for a car.
You will meet the Vehicle Advisor to select what kind of car best suits
you and your family's needs.
You will need insurance coverage for your car before signing the lease. In most
cases, full coverage is required. Contact an insurance agent before signing the lease.
You will sign a lease contract with MVAC. This outlines your monthly
payments, and other agreements.
You will make arrangements to meet with the Vehicle Advisor every month.
At this meeting, you will make your payment, and discuss you car's maintenance.
Cars are equipped with a device that must be programmed each month
The car will not start again IF:
- You miss your meeting with the Vehicle Advisor (without a 24 hour notice)
- You have not done required maintenance
- You have not paid your insurance
- You have violated the terms of the lease, or the vehicle is damaged or misused
