Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 Rental Assistance)
MVAC administers HUD’s tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) rental assistance program in Faribault and Le Sueur Counties. The HCV Program assists eligible families to lease qualified housing by subsidizing a portion of the rent for less out-of-pocket expense. Eligibility for the HCV Program is based on family status, income limits, citizenship or eligible immigration status, and compliance with HUD and PHA requirements. Applicants must provide required documentation, not be receiving other housing subsidy, meet asset and property restrictions, and have a household history free of activities prohibited by HUD or PHA.
MVAC will accept and process all pre-applications received for the HCV program. The only preference or priority that we offer is that of residency. To be eligible for this preference you must be an “established” resident of either Faribault or Le Sueur County at the time of application and be able to provide verification of residency (lease, utility bill, ID).
Approved applicants will be issued a voucher for their selected County based upon the size of the family, not based on unit size. Program participants should expect to pay approximately 30% of their adjusted gross monthly income toward rent and tenant-paid utilities.
For further information or to initiate pre-application for the program, please complete the attached “Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 Rental Assistance) Inquiry Form”. You may also contact MVAC County Specialists in Faribault or Le Sueur County to pick up paper pre-applications.
If you are a current voucher holder looking to port to Le Sueur or Faribault County, your initial housing authority (IHA) must send the following documents to initiate the port request:
- HUD-52665
- HUD-50058 (new admissions excluded)
- EIV Report (new admissions excluded)
- Copy of the signed voucher
- Contact information for head of household
Port requests can be sent to hcv@mnvac.org.
