Wheel Get There
What is Wheel Get There?
MVAC’s Wheel Get There program accepts donated cars from the public and sells them to low-income people at a discount. Most cars sell for between $400 and $700. (Tax, license, and transfer fees can add as much as $115 to this.)
Every car receives a test-drive and an under-hood check, but most will need some work to be usable for daily transportation. We try to be as honest as possible as to what each car probably needs. Such cars work best for people who can either fix them themselves, or have a friend or family member who can do so for them. Generally speaking, if you buy such a car from our program, it is usually not cost-effective to pay a mechanic $80 an hour (or more) to make it usable for you.
To qualify, you must be over 18, reside in the nine-county area served by MVAC (Blue Earth, Brown, LeSueur, Faribault, Martin, Sibley, Nicollet, Waseca, Watonwan counties) and be low-income.
Cars that run and drive are usually sold within one to two days, (sometimes within two hours) so what we have changes from day-to-day.
Simply call 507-345-0446 to find out what we have for cars. If one interests you, make an appointment to come and test-drive the car. If it will work for you, pay for the car, provide proof of insurance, sign paper-work to transfer the car, verify income eligibility, and drive away.
